HOW TO STUDY.

2013-09-30, at 22:05:53

If you're planning on selling your book when you don't need it anymore,
you might not want to jot down too many notes in the margin.
What you can do instead, is to use small post-it notes to write the notes on.
Or if there's information about a certain theme spread out through the whole book,
and you want to be able to find the different parts quickly and easily, you can use a certain colour
for everything related to that theme, and put a post-it with that colour on every page with information about the
theme.

Another thing you can use the post-it notes for,
is marking out important pages, or marking out parts that you haven't quite understood,
and that you think you might need to revise again later.
Your book might end up looking like an indian chief's headdress, but at least it's organized!

Ode to a Nightingale.

Whenever I feel stressed and I feel like I need to relax,
I listen to this. Benedict's voice is the most gorgeous voice on this earth.
His voice is so relaxing, and it feels as if it surrounds you while you listen to him reading.
It probably helps with insomnia too!

My heart aches, and a drowsy numbness pains.

2013-09-30, at 12:10:42

I woke up with the most horrible headache ever this morning,
and I honestly don't think I would've made it out of bed if I hadn't happened to have a painkiller on my
bedside table. Luckily the painkiller kicked in before it was time to go to school,
so I got to write my Geography exam without having to worry about a headache.

After I got home from school,
I decided to relax for a while with an episode of Doctor Who, some pasta salad and
a Starbucks coffee. So it's been a great morning for me.
I'm probably going to spend the rest of my day studying, as usual.
Although I don't have an exam tomorrow, I have my History exam on Wednesday,
which I reaaaally have to study for.
I mean, it's not even remotely funny how much we have to read through for the history exam...

I hope you'll have a lovely day! <3

Ask me something.

I thought that since I'm so busy this week,
this would be the perfect opportunity for you to ask me things you're curious about.
It could be anything, really, as long as it's not too personal.
It could be something related to my relationship with Christian, something school-related,
my shoesize, how long my hair is et.c et.c.

You can ask me things both here on my blog, or on ask.fm and I'll answer all of your questions in
a vlog after the test week's over.

Icelandic hymn.

2013-09-29, at 16:13:51

Mum showed me this video yesterday,
and there really are no words to describe how beautiful it is.
Apparently, they're an Icelandic group who were just passing through the train station when
they noticed that the echo in the train station was perfect for singing.
So they started singing.

In my opinion,
it sounds almost Elvish, or druid-like. I've always thought Icelandic sounds a bit mythical,
like an ancient language. The fact that it's a hymn also adds to the whole Elvish feel,
and all I can say is that the people who happened to pass by were really lucky to be there!

This is kind of how I felt this morning when I had to wake up and start studying,
I've always been a bit of a night owl and I enjoy being up late.
I love how quiet it is during the night, and that I'm usually enirely alone. Which is good.
Alone is good, sometimes.

Anyways,
I stayed up watching the Batman Begins movie on TV last night
(hence the gif)
and it really reminded me of just how much I love Batman!
Next to Iron Man, he's definitely my favourite superhero!

Who's your favourite superhero? :)

What would YOU do?

2013-09-28, at 20:57:19

I came across this video yesterday,
and it really moved me. It's an American series where they hire actors to play out different scenarios,
to see how people react. In this episode, a girl called Paulina (an actress) was sitting in a diner. She had,
apparently, run away from home, and needed a ride to California.
A man (also an actor) offered her a ride, but seemed a bit... suspicious.

The way so many people just let the man walk out with her really angered me.
Sure, you've got a picture of the man, which might help the police identifying him,
but the poor girl's life could be ruined forever.
The couple at the end brought me to tears, the way they wouldn't let her leave with him,
and their story, it was all so very touching!

I need you near me now.

2013-09-28, at 12:30:11

Last summer, the start of something new. We were a little younger, a little shyer, and probably a little bit happier too.

It's our day again,
just like it always is on the 28th. We're just a month away from 12 months together,
and I can't help but feel like everything's a bit messed up and upside-down right now.
I don't know if things will sort themselves out, all I know is that I do love him so,
and that it'd be a shame to lose him.
(But sometimes, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do to stay sane)

If you hear this wherever you are
Just know I need you here
I need you near me now
You were brighter than the pale white moon
Reflected in your eyes
So I guess it's no surprise
I can't forget you
No matter what I do

So if you don't feel that confident in your English, you can now read my blog in Swedish too. :)
(Or, you know, any other language available on Google Translate)

I'm having slight troubles with getting it to work on the Archive-page, though,
so could you guys maybe click on any month in the archive and see if it works for you?
If it doesn't, please leave a comment and I'll try to fix it!

Blog design: Mouseover effect.

2013-09-27, at 22:22:24

1.
Go to the HTML-section of your blog design (kodmallen, for those of you who speak Swedish).

2. Paste the code below right above </head>.

<style type="text/css">
img{opacity: 1;
-webkit-transition: opacity 0.7s linear;
-webkit-transition: all 0.5s ease-out;
-moz-transition: all 0.5s ease-out;
transition: all 0.5s ease-out;}
img:hover{opacity: 0.6;
-webkit-transition: opacity 0.7s linear;
-webkit-transition: all 0.3s ease-out;
-moz-transition: all 0.3s ease-out;
transition: all 0.3s ease-out;}
</style>

3. Play around with the numbers. I'd recommend not changing the img{opacity: 1, because otherwise your pictures'll become foggy even without the mouseover. img:hover{opacity: 0.6 is what you want to change, though.
A lower number will make the picture more foggy on mouseover, a higher number will make it less foggy. Just keep the number between 0 - 0.9 and you'll be fine. :)

Viral Videos, ft. Mass Text.

2013-09-27, at 13:03:06

I've always found viral videos very fascinating,
and I'm especially intrigued by the effect they tend to have on people.
The general rule with viral videos, is that the worse they are - the more attention they get,
Friday and Hot Problems are just two examples of many, many videos like that.
(I actually liked Chocolate Rain, though!)
Most of these viral videos are so obviously fake, though, they're purpousely bad so that they'll
get more views. Some people have even started thinking that making a bad video
and getting it to go viral is an easy way to achieve fame,
which is actually kind of sad.

Mass Text definitely takes the prize for worst viral video yet.
Mass text? More like mass torture!

HOW TO STUDY.

2013-09-26, at 22:08:14

If you pay attention in class,
you've already learned everything, so your homework is just revision, right?
If you, on the other hand, don't pay attention, you have to learn everything from scratch as homework.
And that's not entirely fun.

Besides, a good teacher can explain things better than any textbook ever could!

Hi everyone,

our Art class, because the teacher wants to make sure we all have a group and that we know what we're going

because I have heaps of styding to do today (as usual),
and I really don't fancy the thought of staying up until 11 or 12 studying again.

I know that it's tough to sit down and study after you've just spent eight hours in school,
to read 30 pages of history and 16 pages of biology every day,
but trust me, it's so much better than trying to cram in 300 pages of History in one night.
You don't learn very much, even if you manage to read through those 300 pages in a day.
Repetition, structure and time is vital when you're trying to actually learn something.

Studying in bed,

It's also much better for your back and shoulders to study at a table.

Today has been both a good day and a bad day,
but it sure has been very busy. It's been kind of bad because school today went by sooo
slowly even though I only had four lessons. And driving school wasn't much better.
But it's also been good, because we ate pizza for dinner and I went to the local bookshop to

and I also asked her if she needs any help before Christmas...
she said she most likely will need help

which basically means I got myself a job! :D

As I'll spend most of my days studying from now on, I've put together a series of study tips for you all.
There'll be one tip each day, so you should definitely stick around if you want to read them all! :)

Unless you need your computer, TV or phone in order to study,
you really should turn them off. You might think that they won't distract you that much,
but if you keep checking your facebook chat every other minute, you won't be able to concentrate properly.
You also work much more effectively when you're not distracted by any background noise.
You also won't be able to procrastinate as effectively without access to the internet.

2013-09-15, at 21:16:31

Skater Skirt - BikBok, Tangle Teezer - Sokos, Lip Pen - H&M, Duvet Cover Set - H&M Home.

I'm so utterly, ridiculously happy right now,
because I've finally gotten myself a tangle teezer! Brushing my hair is the worst thing ever, and it
used to take me up to 15 minutes to brush it out completely,
and sure, it's a real pain in the arse to brush my hair with the tangle teezer too,
but it's definitely much less of a pain in the arse than with a normal hairbrush.

I also found a gorgeous duvet cover set in H&M Home,
and I just had to have it! I'm so tired of all of my childish Ikea duvet cover sets, with their vivid colours
and odd patterns. I wanted something more mature.
I also fell in love with a burgundy skater skirt, it's a bit too long for me but I think I can make it work! :)

T-shirt - Sokos, Thermos Mug - Stockmann.

The t-shirt caught my eye the moment I walked into the store,
and I absolutely love the "quote" on it, because it reminds me of Christian.
There's also some kind of coffee-apocalypse going on in our school,
everyone seems to be walking around with a coffee cup in their hand,
so I thought this'd be the perfect moment to buy a thermos mug (in a gorgeous royal blue colour)
so I can bring tea with me to school.
What a rebel I am. (Not!)

Shirt - BikBok.

The last thing I bought was this gorgeous shirt, again in a burgundy colour.
It has leather covered shoulders, and the leather also reaches over the top of the back-part.
It's so soft and comfy, especially in a slightly bigger size so you have room to move and cuddle up.

This was everything I bought today, it's quite a lot, but I love everything!
It's time for bed now, though, so good night lovelies! :)

It was enchanting to meet You.

Louise and I spent last night walking around town,
I showed her the parts of town she doesn't get to see during music camp.
We also made vegetable dip, watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 and went to bed at 11 p.m.
On a Friday. Feeling like old ladies.

It's insane how much I've missed her,
and I'd completely forgotten how happy I am when I'm with her.
She's the most sympathetic and wonderful person I've ever met, she's so easy to talk to
and her laughter is the most infectious laughter I've ever heard.
It's also so nice to have someone you can actually talk to about long-distance stuff,
because although my other friends tell me they're there for me and that they understand,
it really isn't something you understand unless you've experienced it.
And Louise also has a boyfriend in Sweden, so she knows just how difficult things can be.
I have a feeling I'm going to be spending a lot of time with her from now on. :)

She also bought me (real!!!) fudge after reading my blog post about the awful fudge I bought a

so I decided not to spam you with depressing posts and ended up not posting at all.
I have no idea whether I'll have time to post today, either,
because my dear, dear friend Louise is coming over.
I haven't seen her in a really long time, since she lives quite far away from me,
so it'll be fun to finally meet her again! :D

Mary Lambert - She Keeps Me Warm.

My dear friend Elizabeth showed me this video a while ago,
and it's really sweet and adorable and I just want to melt into a big puddle of happy goo.
You might recognise the girl, and the chorus of the song from Macklemore's Same Love,
and I'm so glad she started her own solo career and made a full song out of it,
because it's utterly amazing!

BBC buys Never Wipe Tears Without Gloves.

2013-09-12, at 09:00:50

BBC has apparently bought the Swedish TV-drama Never Wipe Tears Without Gloves,
which makes me incredibly happy because now I'll finally be able to force my English-speaking friends to watch it. It'll (most likely) be with subtitles, but it's better than nothing.
Honestly, it's the greatest TV-series made in Sweden, ever.

I just finished my project for art class,
(Melody still can't draw. Or paint, for that matter.) and I have a bit of studying to do now.
After that I have to clean my room and then I'll probably collapse from exhaustion. :))

What have you done today?

Especially during History class.

Long hair, don't care.

2013-09-10, at 18:20:00
I wanted to show off how long my hair's really gotten, and I think right now it's the perfect shade.
I'm going to dye it soon, though, just because I have a horrible outgrowth.

Hellooo everyone,
I'm done studying for today so that means working on my project for art class
and watching Doctor Who. Love it!
We had a meeting after school with a bunch of people today because we're going to organise
a party for children and their families, to raise money for prom, so we discussed different ideas
and problems for about half an hour, and then Linnéa and I went to a photographer to have our
pictures taken for our driving licenses.
(Oh the horror...)

What have you been up to today? :)

Miley Cyrus - Wrecking Ball (Official Music Video).

2013-09-10, at 15:21:09
Warning: Mature content. If you're uncomfortable with naked people, don't watch this video.

The music video to Miley Cyrus' new single "Wrecking Ball" was released yesterday,
and I actually really like the song. It feels open, raw and honest, and it somehow reminds me of the old Miley.
The video isn't half bad either, it's dramatic and Miley's gorgeous (seriously, her body's gorgeous!)

That being said,
I really don't understand her fixation with being nude/almost nude all of the time.
Yes, thanks Miley, we've seen your body both on TV and on youtube now,
and I think it's quite enough. I understand that it's her body,
and I understand that she can do whatever the fudge she wants with her body,
but I just don't understand the need to be naked.

Is it for the views? Is it because she wants to shock people? Is it because of aesthetic purposes?

Autumn is definitely my favourite season,
and something that's strongly connected to Autumn in my opinion is tea,
so I was suddenly inspired to make a collage of different tea-related things.

I also just spoke on the phone with Malin for about an hour. I miss you! <3

I thought some humour would be nice on a boring Monday like this.
Jerome Jarre's Vines are amazing, and his accent is adorable!

I just got home from school,
it's been such a short and uneventful day, but luckily I don't have a lot of schoolwork for tomorrow.
I have to finish a drawing for art class though, so now you know what I'll be doing
the entire evening. :)

Jack and Finn currently have a campaign up on prizeo.com where you can donate to the Teenage Cancer Trust, and at the same time you get the chance to win a London Rickshaw Run experience with them,
which means you get to go to dinner with them in London et.c.

I donated 50€ to the charity,
which means I get a t-shirt, a card and some other stuff. Not bad at all!
(And I really hope I'll win that dinner...)

I'm not going to stay where I am.

2013-09-09, at 08:07:43
It's more than a journey...
From weheartit.

I got to sleep in a bit today,
school starts at 10 for everyone because of the matriculation exams (the school has to be
dead quiet), and I woke up with fog outside my window.
I'm don't really feel like I'm ready to go to school yet, because of the course this weekend
I feel like it hasn't actually been weekend yet. But I have an awesome weekend this week to
look forward to (meeting someone very dear to me that I haven't met since this summer),
so it's completely OK!

My whole body's also itching to just get up and move away from this place,
I'm starting to realise more and more that Finland isn't where I belong.
Unfortunately, I'm stuck here for another few years, so I suppose I should
just make the best of it. :)

2013-09-08, at 16:39:58

Joey and Meghan made a lip dub of Katy Perry's new single "Roar",
and I'm absolutely in love with the video! I don't usually find smoking attractive, at all, but since I know
Joey's not actually smoking (it's water cigarettes that taste like candy or something),
I can't help thinking that he's bloody gorgeous. And sexy.

But really, smoking is bad and not sexy at all.

Autumn Nights.

2013-09-08, at 12:13:31

I've had a great time here at the course,
the stuff we've done that's actually a part of the curriculum hasn't been that great,
but the people here and the things we've done during our free time have been awesome!
Last night we went out for a walk to Isabella's summer place (the picture above is taken on her dock,
I'm so envious of her!), we were quite a big group and some of us ran ahead, hid in a bush, jumped
out and screamed when they walked by. Their faces were priceless!

We also played backwards hide-and-seek in the dark,
which was the most terrifying thing ever. We played a lot of different games after that,
and Emilia, Izabelle, Cecilia, Linnéa and I rounded the night off with a scary movie.
That I didn't watch very much of.
Because a psycho bit off a woman's finger and I decided I'd had enough. :)

I'm going home soon, and I'll update lots when I'm home! :)

I don't know if I'll have time to update, but I have a few scheduled posts for you.

You sing a sad song just to turn it around.

2013-09-06, at 22:36:58

Today has not been a very good day.
I usually try to keep my blog as positive as possilbe, so I won't go into details,
but the main reason for my bad mood is the stupid distance separating me from Christian.
It sucks that when I really need to hug/kiss/feel him, I can't, because he's not here and I'm not there.
Oh well, I'll survive. You always do, after all.

Mental illnesses and love.

2013-09-06, at 18:57:45

One of my facebook-friends just shared this,
and I'm so happy she did, because it's something that really pisses me off.
Yes, living with someone who has a mental illness, or any other form of illness, is terribly difficult.
But you can't just leave them because of it.
Having a mental illness is difficult enough, but having someone leave you because of it,
it must really ruin you and make you hate yourself more than you already possibly do.

If you're going to leave someone just because they have a mental illness that you can't deal with,
please make sure you've tried everything, every form of therapy, treatment et.c. first.
Don't be the person who dumps their partner because he/she is taking up too much of their time.

Abstract presence.

2013-09-06, at 10:09:08

Last night I had a terrible nightmare,
and it was really awful, but then suddenly I just felt Christian's presence in the dream,
and the nightmare changed into a normal dream instead. It's weird, because I didn't see him
as a physical being anywhere in the dream, I just... felt his presence.
So I decided to draw how I felt when he pushed the nightmare away.
The orange and red tones are really vibrant, which makes me feel all warm and safe.
And yes, he does have a touch of pink in his presence.

Now I'm just wondering,
is it normal to feel someone's presence like this in a dream?

Have you ever had a similar experience?

Danish gifts.

2013-09-05, at 10:27:55
My parents went to Denmark for dad's birthday,
and they bought me a few things there, which I really didn't expect at all and I'm so happy!

Note how I'm sneakily trying to hide from the reflection behind my camera...

They gave me a miniature version of DKNY's new fragrance collection.
I really like all of the fragrances and I think the small bottles are really cute, perfect for keeping in your
handbag! (Or not, because they're not spray bottles, so if the cap comes off, your whole handbag will be soaked
in perfume...)
The blue and green fragrances are both very fresh, whereas the pink and yellow (which looks more clear
than yellow in the picture above) ones are a bit heavier. They're all very flowery, with a hint of fruitiness, mostly from citrus fruits. They all smell faintly like soap, which I suppose isn't a bad thing if you're going for
a fresh smell, but you really don't want to smell like you just stepped out of the shower either.

They also got me a french manicure set from O.P.I and a party pack of M&M's,
which, to those of you who don't know, is 1 kg of M&M's. 1 kg!!!

The gift I was the most excited about, though,
is this pair of silver earcuffs from Merete Fredelund. They look like a pair of snakes,
but I'd strongly suggest only wearing one earcuff at a time, otherwise it'd be a bit over the top.
I feel like my ears are slightly too small for earcuffs, but these are actually a fairly decent size.
I love them! <3

Flash mob.

2013-09-04, at 10:14:15

We just had a flash mob in our school,
which consisted of us sitting outside reading for half an hour.
The other Swedish schools were there too, so the street was lined with children and teenagers reading.
The street outside our school isn't a very busy street, but a few people drove by and looked a bit puzzled.
Not very many people from our school actually read, but it was nice to sit outside among friends anyway.

I've always thought that a flash mob is when you suddenly start singing and dancing or something,
but apparently it can be just sitting down to read somewhere unexpected too.

Hello September!

2013-09-01, at 22:32:00
Pictures from we<3it.

So September came knocking on everyone's door today,
again, as it does every year. Some people let it in with a smile on their faces and greeted it with an optimistic cup of hot chocolate, others just let it in, but did so quite begrudgingly.
I'm one of the people who greeted September with a warm welcome, because Autumn is my favourite
season.

Had I lived in the UK,
I would currently have been sitting in the Great Hall at Hogwarts,
but alas, I'm stuck here in Finland. Oh well, my Muggle school isn't half bad either,
and I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy this Autumn all cozied up in my sweaters and hoodies
with lots and lots of hot chocolate, coffee and books. And studying, but that's another matter entirely.

How do you feel about September? Are you excited? :)
