Why do we still need Pride?

2013-07-31, at 20:21:00

Pride isn't just about homosexuals flaunting their sexuality around like there's no tomorrow, or showing the heterosexuals how proud they are to be homosexual.

Torka Aldrig Tårar Utan Handskar made me realise that. It's not just about having fun
and protesting and showing the world how proud you are of your sexuality.
It's about remembering the horrible past, the times when homosexuals were dying left and right of AIDS,
and the survivors were shunned and hated on because apparently they were helping to spread the virus too. They were murderers.

It's about honouring and carrying on the tradition of the protests
that got the homosexuals and bisexuals the rights that they have today. Because they didn't come cheap,
people actually had to protest to get the laws changed.
And yes, the LGBTQ community have it a lot better now than they did 20 years ago,
but they still have to deal with a lot of crap that heterosexuals don't have to deal with.
And as long as there's any discrimination against the LGBTQ community,
we have to work against it.

Pictures from Sweden (a.k.a. my boyfriend's bedroom).

2013-07-31, at 10:34:37
I remembered that I haven't showed you the pictures I took in Sweden,
which aren't very many pictures at all. Because a camera to Christian is what a clove of garlic is to a vampire.
Jokes aside, there weren't very many things worth taking pictures of.

Christian's supercute cat, Mimmi, that didn't seem to want to hang out with us very much.

It was sooo weird for me, because she's so small compared to Whiskey that I didn't really know what to do. How do you pet a kitten?! How do you hold a kitten?!

She seemed to like it when I scratched her though. Cats usually do, because my nails are so long.

Christian has the coolest little mini guitar, I wonder if he'd notice if it went missing? ;)

He also has a statue of a snake, which has apparently scared a lot of people. I think it's cool!
We "accidentally" ate a lot of unhealthy food while I was there, but I can honestly say that it was Christian who wanted the Ben & Jerry's ice cream... I just chose to agree.

Torka Aldrig Tårar Utan Handskar - Del 3: Döden.

2013-07-30, at 12:13:44
My book arrived this morning, which made me unbelievably happy because now I know what I'm going to be doing for the rest of the day.

Is it bad that I started crying just from reading the back of the book?...
I mean, I'm terrified of reading this, but at the same time, I can't wait to read it.
I love the blurb though, and I thought I might share it here (in Swedish, because I can't be bothered with translating it right now):

I just think it's so beautiful, and I think Jonas Gardell is really trying to teach us a few lessons with these books,
at the same time that he's educating us about the horrible past.
Book 1 and 2 have both been beautifully written, and I don't doubt that this will be beautifully written too.

If you can, you should really try to get your hands on the trilogy. It's important that as many people as possible read it.

Fishtail Braid.

2013-07-29, at 17:52:04
I finally learned how to make fishtail braids!

I've always wanted to wear my hair in a fishtail braid, but I've always thought it looks tricky
and therefore never tried it. Until I saw Zoella's tutorial, because my biggest concern was the fact that my hair is so long and thick, but her hair is even longer and possibly even thicker than mine so if she can do it, I can!

I just got home after going out for dinner with mum and dad, I wasn't happy because we were away for about 4 hours and the food wasn't even that great, and I could feel a headache sneaking up on me. Not the ideal situation. But it was OK. :)

An announcement: Jacksgap.com.

2013-07-29, at 11:14:30
I don't think I've been this happy about an announcement in a looong time.

My favourite cheeky twins, Jack and Finn, have been a huge inspiration for me since I started watching their videos a year ago. They're so young, but they've already done so much for charity, and they've already helped so many people. Their videos are so entertaining, and it's no wonder girls all over the world are falling head-over-heels for these two charming young men.

Now they've decided to start their own website, which I think is a lovely initiative.
It means they're humble enough to actually take their own time to help their viewers and readers find the best content on the web, and the "Your quick-fire guide to filming the perfect vlog" entry shows that these guys really know what they're talking about, and that they're willing to help their viewers make better videos.

Words can't describe how much I love these guys, and it's actually a big dream of mine to go penny boarding with them someday. A girl can dream, ey?

Summertime Sadness.

2013-07-28, at 20:13:00
Pasárgada | via Tumblr
>Source<

I've always been a sad person, I have my happy moments of course. But it's so very easy for me to get stuck in that pool of sadness that I've created throughout the past years. The fandoms I'm in certainly aren't helping, most of them are terribly depressing with characters dying left and right just as you've gotten attached to them.

Sadness is something I understand, it's basically impossible for me to write a happy story and I feel an odd sense of satisfaction when I can make people cry just from typing down a few little words.
In my opinion, the saddest love stories are the best, and no love story should ever have a happy ending.
Because it's the bittersweet feeling that you get, that's what fuels you.

Lately I've been doing a lot better, I've stayed out of my personal pool, only dipping my toes in every once in a while. This is mostly thanks to Christian, he's made me realise how beautiful happiness can be.
But as soon as he went away, I slipped. I've been slipping in for a few weeks already, and this was just the final push. I've been trying to keep myself busy, trying to keep myself from thinking about him, trying to distract myself with a wide range of ridiculous activities.
I've been out for hours at a time, penny boarding with Malin, just to take my mind off things.
I've tried watching every TV-show imaginable to distract my mind.

I finally ended up on my bed, though, curled up into a little ball of sadness and crying.
Hence the bad updates and the lack of passion.

I sincerely hope you're having a better Sunday than I am. <3

Hot summer days, rock and roll

Lana is amazing, and there's not a single person on earth who could have made a song better suitable for
The Great Gatsby than this one. Her voice fits right into the movie.

It's not her I want to talk about today. I want to talk about how much I can relate to this song,
especially since it's Christian's and my 9 month anniversary today. I have nooo idea where he is right now, what he's up to or how he's doing, but I do know that I want to spend the rest of my life with him.

Love Your Blog!

2013-07-27, at 19:00:11

One of the most important thing when you're a blogger is, in my opinion, to love your blog.
Because if you're enthusiastic about your blog, if you feel comfortable with your blog design and if you're really
passionate about the things you write about, it will show. And it's majorly appealing to people.
It's OK to feel like you run an amazing blog - because you do!

Think of your blog as your personal space on the internet,
you can decorate it as you please. You can fill it with things you love. You can even decide who has access
to your precious place. If you truly love your blog and what you write about, it doesn't matter how many readers you have.

I'll admit that I genuinely love my blog. I don't have very many readers, but I love what I write about and I love writing about it, and I hope it shows. I'm going to continue being just as enthusiastic about my geeky stuff as I used to be, and I'm going to continue to be me.

I also love you, because even though you shouldn't focus solely on the amount of readers you have, the readers are still a big part of your blog. You make me love my blog even more.

Things I do to keep myself busy...

2013-07-27, at 16:08:05

Things I do to keep myself busy and to keep myself from sinking into my little pool of sadness:

1. Photograph flowers. Badly.
2. Read Harry Potter.
3. Help mum empty the pond (which is the most disgusting thing, ever).
4. Take my board out for a spin.
5. Melt.

I'm seriously melting right now. It's 28 degrees outside, 26 degrees inside and at least 30 degrees in my room. Sleeping in said room was almost intolerable even with a fan last night.
Might have to pitch up my tent in our garden tonight.

I feel like following Whiskey's example, he's been sleeping underneath a bench in our garden
for a few hours now. I brought him a waterbowl, but since he only ever drinks from the shower floor or the pond,
it was to no use.

My Jar of Dreams.

2013-07-24, at 20:20:41
I am finally done with the DIY-project I've been talking about!

As you can see, it wasn't a very big project, but it was oh so very time-consuming.
I'm guessing there are at least 150-200 small paper stars in that jar right now,
and I could probably fold these stars in my sleep.
It was totally worth it, though, because it's such a cute addition to my desk!
(Some of you might recognise it as the jar I was supposed to save money in for when I move to London...
... yeeeah, that didn't happen.)

What this is, though, is basically a jar full of paper stars with all of my dreams,
goals and wishes written down on them.
I feel quite safe having them like this, because I don't think anyone would have the patience
to unfold 200 stars just to find out what my dreams in life are.

I think it's quite poetic to be able to say "I have a jar of dreams."

Leave a comment if you'd like me to make a tutorial on how to fold these stars!

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Trailer.

2013-07-22, at 16:26:11

The new Catching Fire trailer was released at Comic Con last weekend,
and I don't think anyone who likes any Hunger Games pages on facebook could have missed this.
My newsfeed was completely spammed with links to the trailer, and I understand why.
It's a majestic piece of work, and I can't wait to see the film,
but I still really don't want to see it, because of the death of a certain character...

What really gets to me about this trailer, though, is the look on Effie's face at the reaping.
She used to be the most cheerful and overly happy person in the whole of Panem,
but now that she's finally gotten to know two victors, the victors of her district,
she really doesn't want to see them go back into the arena.
But she knows they're going to.
And not even the always so professional Effie can keep a straight face in a situation like that.

What do you think about the trailer? Are you excited for the premiere (November 20th for Sweden, November 22nd for Finland, UK and USA)?

Green Tea.

I recently started drinking green tea instead of the black tea I used to drink, because it's supposed to be better for your body and milder on your teeth (i.e. there's not as much staining as with black tea).

There are actually many health benefits of drinking green tea,
here are just a few examples:

1. It can help you lose weight, since it increases your metabolism.
2. It reduces the risk of suffering from heart disease and cancer.
3. It reduces LDL (bad) cholesterol in your blood.
4. It reduces your risk of high blood pressure.
5. It destroys bacteria that causes tooth decay and dental caries.
6. It has a relaxing and calming effect, which can help fight depression.
7. It reduces wrinkles and helps sun damaged skin.
>Source<

These were just a few reasons to gulp down a few cups of green tea every day.
Do you drink green tea, or do you prefer black tea?
Would you consider changing to green tea after reading this?

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

2013-07-22, at 11:36:37

Name: The Hobbit - An Unexpected Journey.

Release date: 12 December (Finland, Sweden).

Starring: Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage.

Director: Peter Jackson.

Storyline: A younger and more reluctant Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, sets out on an "unexpected journey" to the Lonely Mountain with a spirited group of Dwarves to reclaim their stolen mountain home from a dragon named Smaug.

My own opinion: This was another of the movies we watched when I visited Christian, and although it's undeniably a good film, it really doesn't compare to the book. I'm also very curious to see how they're going to get three movies out of a book that isn't even very thick to begin with. I loved seeing Martin as Bilbo, even though Bilbo seems far more adventurous in the movie than he is in the book.

A pending coffee.

2013-07-20, at 16:42:57
I'm currently working on a DIY project that I'm going to keep a secret for a while longer, but I can tell you it involves dreams.

One of my dreams/goals in life, is to some day buy a pending coffee. A pending coffee is a coffee you pay for in a coffee shop, but they save it for someone else who needs it but can't pay for a cup of coffee. Homeless people or very poor people can then come into the coffee shop and ask if there are any pending coffees available, and if there are, they get a free coffee.

We don't have this tradition in Finland, which is a shame because the winters here are really harsh and a cup of coffee could really warm a homeless person up a bit.

Would you buy a pending coffee if you could?

2013-07-18, at 14:14:34
I like Instagram pictures with a crappy quality. That way you can't see how horrible my skin is at the moment.

My dear friend JamJam is finally coming over today. I haven't met her since school ended, which is a shame because I can honestly say that she's probably my dearest friend. We've been friends since forever, and last summer we even started a small band together as our final project in school.
The following year was tough on both of us, and I really regret that I probably haven't been there for her as much as she's always been there for me. I love her endlessly, though.

Here's a video of that:
(I've improved a lot since last year, so this really isn't what I sound like anymore... I hope.)

Photobomb, part 1.

2013-07-18, at 12:49:13
These are just some of the pictures we took at Emmi's summer place last weekend.
(I told you I'm super slow when it comes to editing pictures...)

Malin and Linnéa, that's what you get for borrowing my camera when I'm not around. ;)

A swan decided that the bay was a nice place to chill in.
(Until we scared it away when we wanted to take photos of it)

We made tortillas one evening, and ate them on the bridge.

We decided to go on a trip to a small island that Emmi's family owns.
We ended up having to row back because we ran out of fuel for the motor.

Two pictures from the island.

We decided we wanted to wade out to this small cliff next to the island, and since I was the only one with pockets willing to take responsibility for Emmi's iPhone,
I had to walk with it in my pocket, over slippery rocks all the way to the cliff.
Definitely not cool.

Two pictures after breakfast one morning. Do you recognise the last one? ;)

The Sock Bun.

2013-07-17, at 19:08:01

I wanted to try an updo today, and since I don't have a hair donut,
I decided to go for a sock bun instead.
I had some problems though, because after I put my hair over the "donut" there were still 25-30 cm long strands of hair hanging down, that I had to braid into two braids and wrap around the bun.
I hate having long and thick hair sometimes.

In the picture you can clearly see just how much my hair colour varies. I like it better this way, it feels more alive.

I just stumbled across this on Tumblr,
and it's one of the cutest things I've ever seen on there.
Seriously.

When Christian tells me I'm beautiful, I usually tend to disagree, because I rarely feel beautiful.
When I was visiting him a while ago, we had just woken up one morning.
I had no make-up on, my hair was a mess, and I probably looked a bit like a zombie.
Still, he told me I was beautiful and kissed my nose.
I seriously can't describe how happy I was in that moment. <3

He was so nice in my dream and he gave me his autograph and let me take a picture with him and then we sat and talked about writing for a while. I don't know if that's what he'd be like in real life, but that was my dream Jonas Gardell. :)

(If you don't know who he is, I strongly suggest you check out the Torka Aldrig Tårar Utan Handskar series which is both a tv-series and a book series. He's also a comedian, so you should follow him on twitter for hilarious and socially critical tweets)

I spent the entire evening yesterday going through the DIY section of buzzfeed, because I'm totally into DIY at the moment and I just feel like completely redecorating my bedroom.

You should really check buzzfeed out, but be careful not to get too addicted to it. ;)

It's nice to see Finn alone in a video again, because he always seems a bit overshadowed by Jack
(obviously, because the channel's called "JacksGap," not "FinnsGap")
and I must say that these two men are the most inspirational youtubers out there.
They've done a lot of charity videos, and they're constantly involved in different projects to make the world a better place.

They also give their fans a chance to stand in the spotlight at the end of each video as their outro.
It's so sweet!

I don't think anyone could have missed the passing away of Cory Monteith,
because it's been all over the web lately. I'm not a Gleek myself, but I understand that he's been an enormous inspiration for a lot of people worldwide.
It's always sad when your idol passes away, especially when (s)he's only 31 years  young, but it's also so nice to see that all of the other major fandoms are coming together to support and comfort the Gleeks.

If you're a gleek and you've been badly affected by his death, and you feel like you need someone to talk to, I'm here. Just leave me a comment or drop me an e-mail.

J.K. Rowling revealed: The Cuckoo's Calling.

2013-07-15, at 12:37:35
J.K. Rowling has written a new novel, under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. The secret leaked out and was published in the Sunday Times, and in just a few hours, the book went from having sold just 1500 copies to having sold 5000 copies. I think this really shows just what a powerful woman J.K. Rowling really is.

The novel's about a man called Cormoran Strike, who is a war veteran but decides to become a private investigator.

I think writing under a different name must be very liberating for a big author like Rowling. She's mentioned that she liked the fact that there wasn't any buzz, hype or expectations on the book, and that it was nice to get honest feedback from people. I feel very sorry for the editors who turned the book down though, imagine what they must have felt like when Rowling was revealed as the author of the book.

Choosing a man's name as your pseudonym is a classical move, which I think is due to the fact that men still dominate the literary world and that it's easier to be taken seriously if you're a man when you release your debut novel. She might also have chosen the name to make it even more clear that it wasn't her who wrote the book.

I'd heard about the book before, and I'd seen the cover, which I find very appealing. Now that it's confirmed that it's Rowling's work, I simply must have it.

What do you think of Rowling's attempt to write under a different name? Was it a clever move?
Will you read the book?

2013-07-14, at 18:43:00
Here's a cutesy picture of Christian and I, because I haven't had the time to edit the pictures I took at my friend's summer place yet.

I'm home now, after an amazing weekend together with my friends. Mostly we just talked, ate, chilled around and swam, but we also had the time to go to the sauna.
The ride home was a bit bumpy and a bit wet, because Emmi's dad drove us home in an open boat. Malin, who was sitting on the windy side of the boat, was completely soaked when we got home, and I don't envy her at all.

I'll tell you more about my weekend later, but right now I have to unpack and then I believe dad's heated our sauna so that I can wash the sea properly out of my hair and body.

Beasts of the Southern Wild.

2013-07-11, at 13:11:10

Name: Beasts of the Southern Wild.

Release date: 11 January (Finland, Sweden).

Starring: Quvenzhané Wallis, Dwight Henry, Levy Easterly.

Director: Benh Zeitlin.

Storyline: Faced with both her hot-tempered father's fading health and melting ice-caps that flood her ramshackle bayou community and unleash ancient aurochs, six-year-old Hushpuppy must learn the ways of courage and love.

My own opinion: I feel like nothing major actually happened in the movie, it was more of a movie following someone's everyday life, but it was still so moving and touching. I was crying by the end of it (Christian: "Are you crying?" Me: "... maybe *sniffs*"), and Hushpuppy is such a lovable character. The music in the movie was exceptionally amazing, and it really set the epic tone for the film.

Woke up to the sound of my mum shouting "Lunch is ready!"
... oops? I slept for like 10 hours last night, even though I cleverly moved my bed so that half of it is now in front of he window which means my feet feel as if they're burning up in the morning.

Also got some exciting news: Christian's name is in the paper today because he got into the school he applied for. I really can't begin to explain how proud I am of him, and I'm so happy to see that he's really working to get to where he wants to go in life. <3

Everything I bought on Viking Line Grace during my trip back from Sweden.

I'm so pleased with everything, especially the Ted Baker ring. It's by far the most expensive ring I've bought, but soo worth it. My dad was convinced that it was too big for me, but it fits perfectly on my index finger.

The Chubby Stick from Clinique is something that I've been wanting for a really long time now, and I'm not disappointed by it. It's a very intense and lovely dark fuschia colour, perfect for summer!

The WESC t-shirt was on sale, and I just thought "why not?" even though green isn't really my colour. The fabric feels light, and it'll be perfect to run in. Love it!

The Lone Ranger.

2013-07-09, at 14:36:21
Christian and I watched a lot of movies while I was there, so I thought I might make separate posts about the movies we saw, reviewing them and stuff.

Name: The Lone Ranger.

Release date: 22 June (USA), 3 July (Finland, Sweden).

Starring: Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer, William Fichtner.

Director: Gore Verbinski.

Storyline: Native American warrior Tonto recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid, a man of the law, into a legend of justice.

My own opinion: This movie was made by the same people who worked on Pirates of the Caribbean, and that really shows. Johnny Depp was his usual charming, hilarious self, and I loved how they managed to mix action and humour together perfectly. Tonto was a lovely character, very unpredictable, and he moved with the same grace that Depp used in Pirates of the Caribbean. Overall it was an exciting adventure with nothing to complain about.

Brief update.

2013-07-08, at 23:01:35
Yesterday, chillaxing in Christian's sofa, watching The Walking Dead with him.

I think I'd fit right into The Walking Dead right now. I woke up at half past 3 today to catch the ferry back to Finland, Christian's mum and his stepdad were kind enough to drive me both ways, even though it meant that they had to get up freakishly early to do so.

Crashed in dad's cabin once I got on the ship, and spent the rest of the day reading, eating and wandering around. I thought I was OK with leaving Christian behind this time, I felt just fine when I said goodbye to him at 4 a.m. I felt just fine when I got on the ship. I was too tired and busy to think very much about anything during the trip back to Finland, but as soon as I was back in Turku, I kind of broke down internally.
I just want to go back, because I belong at his side.

I was also informed of the nice fact that there's a shortage of water in my town right now, which means you have to save as much water as possible and boil it before you drink it et.c.
When I returned from music camp last year, we had no warm water, and when I returned home from Sweden this year, we don't have very much water at all. What are the odds?

I'm so going to bed now though, because I'm knackered and I'm going out for a run tomorrow. I must have gained at least 3 kg while I was in Sweden.

Goodnight lovelies! <3

NEW IN!

2013-07-06, at 13:52:00
I bought these two tops after I got home from camp last week.

I'm so in love with both tops, although I only noticed when I got home that the Jack Daniels one is the kind of top that's open on both sides and tied together in a knot at the bottom on each side. I bought it at a market-place, so I can't return it either.
I don't really have the figure for wearing tops like that, but I'm hoping I will have one day. :)

The Iron Maiden top's from H&M, and it's really weirdly shaped. S is too big on me, and I couldn't find any smaller, and it goes past my knees (#shortpeopleproblems), but I think it might work to sleep in during summer.

Overall, I'm so happy with both of them. <3

I bought these while shopping a while ago, and I never really got around to showing them to you.

These are things that my friend brought me from London. Before she went there, I asked her if she could maybe bring me something small from London, and I meant like a small touristy thing or something, but noooooo. She brought me the loveliest Union Jack shirt ever, a book about English behaviour and a pin that says "I <3 London".

She also brought me candy, but that's long gone.

Still Hurting - The Last 5 Years.

2013-07-01, at 17:00:48

They played this song at our own concert last night. I changed the lyrics a bit:

KOMP it is over and KOMP it is gone
I have decided it's time to move on
I have new dreams I am building upon
But I'm still hurting

KOMP it is over and where can I turn?
Covered with scars I did nothing to earn
Maybe there's somewhere a lesson to learn
But that wouldn't change the fact
That wouldn't speed the time
Once the foundation's cracked
And I'm
Still Hurting

KOMP is the name of the music camp I recently returned from, and yes, it really is this bad.
I haven't cried very much though, I just feel awfully hollow.

BANG!

2013-07-01, at 11:17:00
I'm back home from camp now, currently sitting in my room with Lucinda who will be catching the train back home soon.

It feels so weird that it's over now, and I can't really believe it. I don't want to believe it either.
I've had a wonderful week, and I think I've finally realised just how much this camp means to me.
It's not just about playing music or singing, it's about being able to be yourself without getting judged by anyone. You can make weird noises, you can be as weird as you want and you never have to feel like you're not good enough.

I've developed so much during these last four camps, not only when it comes to singing, but as a person too.
I'd like to think that I emerge a better person than I was when I went to camp.

The most important thing, though, is that this year (our last year there) we went out with a bang. <3
